Colonel Jon Phillips is the voice of the Price Discovery Report. The award-winning broadcaster has had more than 30 years of experience in trading commodities, 20 years of cattle auctioneering experience and more than 25 years in farm broadcasting.
Raised on a farm near Wausa, Nebraska, Col. Jon began attending cattle sales at a young age with his grandfather. Over the years, his experience, dedication and work ethic have garnered him a Top Broker designation from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, an Outstanding Service Award by the South Dakota Livestock Auction Markets Association, and the Distinguished Support Award from the National Market News Association, among many awards.
Truly an advocate for local producers, his peers in the industry hold Col. Jon in high esteem. Jim McElhany, former head officer of the USDA Market News in Sioux City, said, "Jon is rated the number one agricultural market broadcaster for a four-state region. He maintains close ties with producers directly involved in farming and ag marketing. He talks to the people, not at them."
Jon's Market News Association Award, which he won in 1995, made him only the sixth winner in it’s thirty-eight year history.
'The Colonel', as most of his listeners know him, gets his information first-hand, directly from market sources. Because of his contacts with buyers, sellers and traders, Col. Jon gets and delivers market information when it's news, not history.
His live appearances at trade shows, county and state fairs and charity events keep his profile strong among local communities. His commitment to rural America is unequaled in farm broadcasting.
