The Independent Cattlemen of Iowa (ICI), an R-CALF affiliate, and the Iowa Cattlemen's Association (ICA), an NCBA affiliate, met with Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller on Monday, April 21, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed merger of JBS with Swift and National. Both cattlemen's groups feel it is not in the best interests of the beef industry and encourage the Attoney General to speak on their behalf with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Representing ICI at the meeting was Eric Nelson of Moville, Iowa, ICI President. I spoke with Eric on his cell phone shortly after this meeting. In fact he was pulled off to the side of the road before he left the city limits of Des Moines.
