VeraSun Energy Corporation, based in Brookings, South Dakota, has delayed the opening of its new ethanol plants in Welcome, Minnesota and Hartley, Iowa. The plants were scheduled to come on line during the second quarter of this year. The company sites record corn prices and comparatively low ethanol prices for their delayed openings.

VeraSun still plans to open three other ethanol plants in North Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota before the end of the year. But it has delayed its Grand Opening at its Linden, Indiana ethanol facility.
